Privacy and how it works
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. The compress, convert, resize and batch tools decode, process and re-encode images inside your browser tab. The image files never leave your device. If we add a feature that needs server processing, it will be clearly labelled before you use it.
Do I need an account?
No. All tools work without signing in. An account is only needed for a paid plan, which raises the limits.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes, in current mobile browsers. Phones have less memory than computers, so very large images or big batches can fail on a phone even within the plan limits.
Is location data removed from photos?
Yes. Re-encoding drops EXIF metadata such as camera details and GPS location. Orientation is applied to the pixels first, so photos stay the right way up.
Formats and results
Which formats are supported?
You can open JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF (first frame only) and BMP. You can save as JPG, PNG and WebP in every supported browser, and as AVIF only if your browser can encode it; otherwise that option is turned off.
What about HEIC, TIFF and SVG?
They aren't supported. Browsers can't reliably decode HEIC or TIFF, and SVG is a vector format that doesn't need this kind of compression. Pixnex recognises these files and tells you rather than producing a broken result.
Why is my file bigger after compressing?
Some images are already well optimised, and converting to a lossless format like PNG can add size. Pixnex always shows the real result, including increases, so you can try a different setting or keep the original.
Will resizing make my image bigger?
Not unless you turn on the option to allow enlarging. By default, if you enter dimensions larger than the original, Pixnex keeps the original size and tells you.
Is animation kept in GIFs?
No. Only the first frame of an animated GIF is processed.
Limits and plans
What are the free limits?
Up to 20 images per batch and files up to 20 MB each. Paid plans raise these limits.
Compare plans →Is there an API?
Not yet. An API is planned, and we'll only list it as a feature once it's available.
Paying and billing
How do I pay?
By UK bank transfer. When you choose a plan you get a payment reference and our bank details. Send the exact amount quoting the reference, then tell us you've paid.
See pricing →When is my plan activated?
As soon as we've confirmed the money has arrived in our bank account. We check by hand, so it can take longer outside working hours.
Does my plan renew automatically?
No. Nothing is ever charged automatically. When your period ends you return to the Free plan unless you pay again.
What if I paid but my plan isn't active?
Check that you clicked “I've sent the transfer” on the payment page and quoted the right reference. If it's been more than two working days, contact us with your reference.
Contact us →Can I get a refund?
See the refunds section of our Terms of Service, or contact us with your payment reference.
